President Prabowo Subianto from Indonesia made an official visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah in the region. During his visit, President Prabowo held discussions with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, where he expressed appreciation for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims from Indonesia and around the world.
The meeting emphasized the close partnership between the two nations in ensuring the safety and well-being of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. Both parties agreed to further enhance the quality of services provided to Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons, underscoring their commitment to facilitating a seamless pilgrimage experience.
In addition to conversations regarding Hajj-related matters, strategic agreements were made to strengthen bilateral relations. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, energy, and technology. Bilateral trade between the countries has been substantial, amounting to approximately USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Moreover, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to encourage private sector investment, totaling around USD 27 billion. These investments are expected to generate employment opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology sectors.
Both leaders also emphasized the significance of cooperation in the health sector, especially in meeting the medical requirements of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Discussions also revolved around developing the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and enhancing the capacity of the health workforce.
On the global stage, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their commitment to promoting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They expressed support for a two-state solution for Palestine and highlighted the role of international humanitarian organizations in fostering peace and stability.
The visit showcased the strong and evolving partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various domains, underscoring their joint efforts to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
