Presiden Prabowo Subianto’s diplomatic missions have reaped positive outcomes, according to the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). Under his leadership, Indonesia has secured 71 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 13 countries and attracted investment commitments amounting to nearly IDR 800 trillion from four nations. This signifies a strategic shift towards markets that were previously untapped by Indonesia’s economic diplomacy. The PCO’s Senior Expert, Philips J. Vermonte, highlighted these achievements during a public discussion organized by GEMPITA at Retro Café in Jakarta. By joining the international organization BRICS, Indonesia aims to expand its market reach amid global uncertainty. Despite misconceptions, Indonesia’s engagement with BRICS does not signify an anti-Western stance, as it is part of a broader strategy to enhance diplomatic relations with major global powers. The recent reduction in U.S. import tariffs on Indonesian goods also demonstrates the benefits of such diplomatic efforts. Deputy Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno emphasized the importance of rationality and data-driven decision-making in trade diplomacy, urging the public to avoid overreactions and baseless assumptions. By focusing on national interests and maintaining a non-aligned stance, Indonesia aims to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape effectively.
