President Prabowo Subianto strongly denounces corrupt practices in Indonesia’s rice trade, promising to take strict action against companies that manipulate and increase the price of subsidized rice. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB), he disclosed that such schemes result in an annual loss of up to Rp100 trillion for the country. Prabowo highlighted the unfairness of repackaging subsidized rice as ‘premium rice’ and selling it at a higher price, despite various forms of government assistance throughout the production process. He pointed out that 212 rice milling companies have been identified for engaging in these unethical practices and emphasized the need for them to return the unlawfully obtained profits. Calling this behavior criminal and a violation of the Constitution, the President stressed the significant impact of these practices on public services and societal welfare. He has instructed the National Police Chief and the Attorney General to investigate, prosecute, and confiscate assets of the guilty parties promptly. Prabowo underlined that his actions are in line with the constitutional mandate to ensure vital sectors like rice production are managed responsibly by the state for the benefit of the people. By addressing these issues, he aims to protect the interests of Indonesian citizens and uphold the principles enshrined in the nation’s Constitution.
